Job Description

Summary of Position:

The Senior Buyer is responsible for timely, efficient, ethical, and cost-effective purchasing of materials and services, while ensuring supplier agreements are documented and consistent with corporate objectives. The Senior Buyer also identifies opportunities for supplier performance improvement.

Functions of the Position:

• Participates in sourcing and negotiations for materials within the Buyer’s scope, under the direction of the Category Manager and/or Procurement Director
• Issues purchase orders and manage inventories for all categories within assigned scope.
• Tracks order status and follow through on all vendor-related issues to ensure timely deliveries.
• Reviews and analyzes internal forecast and demand reports to maintain proper inventory levels without compromising production demands.
• Resolves invoice issues to ensure on-time vendor payment.
• Tracks and communicates industry pricing trends and competitive situations to procurement leadership.
• Collaborate with other teams and departments on new supplier qualifications, new item introductions, and redesigns.
• Ensures supply availability for product launches and/or transitions.
• Minimizes and ensures timely disposal of obsolete inventories.
• Generates periodic purchasing reports as assigned, including inventory tracking, discontinuations and transitions, cost savings, etc.
• Supports supplier performance and scorecarding processes, and monitors KPIs of the supplier base.
• Works on special projects and assignments, as necessary.

Education, Experience, and Knowledge:

• Bachelor’s degree in a Business discipline preferred
• 3–5 years of experience in purchasing relevant materials, preferably within a food manufacturing environment

Skills and Competencies:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments
• Highly detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Strong sense of urgency and ability to prioritize tasks to meet business needs
• Proficient in current technologies and applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems
