  • Contract Duration: 12-months
  • Worksite Location: Des Plaines, IL
  • Compensation: $16.00-20.00 per hour
  • Schedule: Ideal schedule is Friday-Tuesday typically from 8:00am-5:00pm, or Tues-Sat, or Sun-Thurs.

What you’ll do as a Gateway Agent:

  • Understand the full scope of international shipping processes, from purchase order issuance to cargo delivery
  • Initiate, prepare, process, and assemble all required documentation for air, LCL, or FCL shipments
  • Accurately process, distribute, and release all necessary documentation to carriers, customers, and agents in a timely manner
  • Utilize industry knowledge and critical thinking to adapt processes and create solutions in response to internal and external challenges
  • Execute tasks to meet all SOP requirements, including submission of SLI’s to carriers, ocean export bills of lading, shipment updates, pre-alerts, tracking, and invoicing
  • Create, maintain, and update shipment data in Navisphere, ensuring all information is accurate and up to date, including routing, eManifest status, master-level INCOterms, and documents
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with internal teams, overseas offices, agents, customers, and vendors to ensure smooth shipment flow and foster positive working relationships
  • Work in accordance with local and global laws, regulations, and procedures

What you need to become a Gateway Agent:

  • High school diploma or GED; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field if preferred
  • 1+ years of experience in Global Forwarding
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong communication, prioritization, and multitasking skills
  • Excellent customer service skills with effective follow-up
  • Critical thinking, flexibility, and problem-solving abilities to adapt to changing tasks and customer needs
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong appreciation for a diverse and inclusive work environment
