Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager – Crane Operations Focus
Location: Gainesville, VA (On-site)
Compensation: $45.00–$50.00/hour + $1,000/week per diem

Position Overview:
SAVI EHS is seeking a highly skilled Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to lead safety efforts on a high-profile data center construction project in Gainesville, VA. This role requires a strong background in crane operations, including lift planning, rigging verification, and critical lift execution. The ideal candidate is a former crane operator or someone with hands-on experience overseeing heavy lifting activities. In addition to crane safety, this role will be responsible for implementing and managing comprehensive sitewide safety programs—ensuring full compliance with OSHA standards and fostering a proactive safety culture among all trades.
Key Responsibilities – Crane & Rigging Focus:
- Lead all aspects of crane safety and lift planning, including review and approval of critical lift plans and load calculations.
- Conduct pre-lift meetings and act as safety authority during crane operations.
- Inspect rigging equipment and oversee rigging operations to ensure compliance with ASME, OSHA 1926 Subpart CC, and project standards.
- Interface with lift directors, engineers, and operators to ensure safe execution of all hoisting and rigging tasks.
- Monitor subcontractor crane operations and ensure certifications and qualifications are up to date.
- Investigate crane-related incidents, near misses, and equipment failures; drive corrective actions.
Key Responsibilities – General EHS Oversight:
- Manage the overall site safety program for a multi-trade construction project, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EM 385-1-1, NFPA 70E, and other applicable regulations.
- Conduct daily site inspections, safety walks, and behavior-based observations.
- Deliver site-specific safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training sessions.
- Review and track Daily Hazard Analyses (DHAs), JHAs, permits (Hot Work, Confined Space, LOTO), and ensure proper implementation in the field.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective/preventive actions.
- Support emergency response planning, evacuation drills, and coordination with local responders.
- Analyze safety data, generate trend reports, and present findings to site leadership and client EHS teams.
- Coordinate with subcontractors to monitor compliance and promote proactive safety engagement.
- Serve as a liaison between the client, contractors, and internal teams on all safety-related matters.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of site-specific safety plans and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Former crane operator or substantial hands-on experience with critical lift operations and crane safety.
- 5+ years of EHS leadership experience on industrial, data center, or large commercial projects.
- OSHA 30 & 510 required; OSHA 500, CHST, CSP, or NCCCO Lift Director Certification highly desirable.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of construction safety software (Procore, iAuditor, Predictive Solutions, etc.).
- Strong leadership, communication, and incident management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple safety priorities and interface effectively with field crews, client reps, and senior leadership.
