About of The Equality Unit: We are not indifferent to equality!!

The Equality Unit was created to achieve real equality between women and men in the University Community and, by extension, in society as a whole. Our University has an Equality Plan that includes specific measures to promote equal treatment and opportunities between women and men, whether they are students, teachers or administration and service personnel.

Our University also has a protocol for action in cases of harassment that students may suffer and another protocol for the prevention of sexual and gender-based harassment in the workplace.

About ICSJSD

The annual “Social Justice and Sustainable Development Conference”, with a focus on the 2030 Development Agenda, was inaugurated in 2022. This conference, designed to address a unique theme each year, has grown to become a key event for international discussions on justice and sustainability.

The conference was launched with guidance from Professor Dr. Lorenzo Mateo Bujosa Vadell at the University of Salamanca’s Faculty of Law. The first conference, held in December 2022, was hosted by the Faculty of Law and brought together renowned scholars from the United States, Canada, South America, Africa, and Europe, including Iran’s first female judge and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Dr. Shirin Ebadi.

Since 2023, the event has been organized under the auspices of the University of Salamanca’s Gender Equality Unit, led by Professor Dr. María Inmaculada Sánchez Barrios, who has played a vital role in advancing its vision. The second conference, held in November 2023 as part of the fifth International congress on Gender Equality at the University of Salamanca, focused on the role of women in social justice and sustainable development. With the participation of distinguished academics and recognized global advocates from 12 countries across 4 continents, the event served as a dynamic platform for shared learning and impactful dialogue. The representative of the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize winner Mrs. Narges Mohammadi (Iranian lawyer and activist) was also present at this conference and read his message to the conference attendees.

The upcoming third conference, which coincides with the sixth International Congress of the University’s Gender Equality Unit, will take place in December 2024. This year’s theme, “Human Rights and Women”, promises to continue the conference’s mission of fostering inclusive discussions led by the University of Salamanca’s Gender Equality Unit.
